Aloha all,
Well today was a real winner.
Last night we were told about flash flood and high wind warnings. I closed up the house before going to bed. I think that was a good thing. About 3 AM I was awakened to the distinct sound of the power turning off, funny how that is. Of course my sleep machine turned off and the UPS units all went a chirping. I went back to sleep sporadically till my UPS unit on the sleep machines said "I am going to turn off, ready or not."
I took a shower and headed off to work. On my walk into the building, someone decided to say "did you know it is only emergency personnel today?". I turned around and left. Back to driving down the road with no operating signal lights. Not bad drive for me.
I then used my remaining UPS power to listen to the radio. The school announcements (cancellations) were made by parents calling after they want to the school and learning it was closed! What a trip. We do things different in Hawaii. (The norm is for parents to drive kids to school, they have to pay daily bus fare if they ride the bus.)
I also had to hook up the power inverter to the car so I could recharge my laptop and run the radio.
Rest of the day was spent sorting state quarters by state and by mint mark. Yeah I am a bit anal about my collection. When that was complete I got a hone call (I put the cordless phone receiver on a UPS). Julia wants to come up and do a paper for school. Fine. Power came on just as she arrived (about 4 PM) (Yes that is 13 hours!). She procrastinated some more, went and did her job (she does some in home care). When she got back we did dinner and then she started her paper. I babysat her son. After a while she comes downstairs and says I have to leave now and take the online exam, can you finish my paper? ROFL, what do I know about stem cells? I said yes and off she went. Just finished and now typing this. She still has work to do finish it. More than I wanted to know about stem cells.

Compared to what?
It took me 10 minutes of chipping to get enough ice off my car just to open a door and start the engine this morning. Then I cleaned off the rest of the car and drove very slowly to Bolling AFB.Trade you.

I guess that I am lucky. My electric has been on continuously for the past five years (we had a short blip in 2002) and I didn't have to chip anything off of the light rail this morning!

So when do we meet Julia?December 8 2007, 02:48:18 UTC 4 years ago
And who's Julia? (Of course I'm being nosy - we've been friends for a very long time.)
